I want to help everyone find the freedom of getting Organized for Life regardless of where they live, or how much money they have. But there’s only one of me, and I need to make a living too. Too bad I can’t work directly with all of you for free.

Truth: Not necessarily!
You know you have clutter. We all do, in one form or another, and to varying degrees. But have you ever thought about what it is costing you? Sometimes the cost is obvious, such as late fees incurred for an overdue bill that was lost in a mystery pile of paper, or that you couldn’t find the time to pay. Other times the cost is mental or emotional, such as the embarrassment of having others see your cluttered space. Or, missed opportunities. Or, time you could have spent doing something else.

Have you seen A&E’s Storage Wars? This cable TV show features abandoned storage units being auctioned off to the highest bidder. The bidders are essentially gambling on whether or not the contents will be worth more than they paid for them. Usually they’re full of crap. Sometimes there is a treasure inside. Either way, I figure the owner has lost track of the contents. Why pay to store crap? Why not retrieve your treasures before abandoning the unit? I can only imagine the variety of possible answers and, in some cases, I’m sure, the unit owner has died and failed to leave behind a map to the buried storage unit treasure.
Have you ever wondered who, exactly, hires a professional organizer? Are my clients all rich? A few are, yes, but mostly they’re not. Not at all. What do they all have in common? They are ready to make changes; they are willing to invest in themselves (and/or their home, work, and relationships); and they recognize that the value of organizing far exceeds the cost of getting organized.
Clutter has its own costs. Sometimes it comes in the form of actual money lost, or an absence of money gained. Sometimes the costs are less tangible, but they are still very real. Similarly, organizing has tangible and intangible value. Here are some examples: (more…)
