The mystery of family resemblances: Who you think you look like?

I’ve long been intrigued by family resemblances. I also love the genealogy TV show, Who Do You Think You Are?, which inspired my blog title.

I wrote this post for APPO (Association of Personal Photo Organizers), and I’m sharing it here so you can enjoy it too!

Hazel- I remember reading your post about family resemblances and really enjoying it. It’s so fascinating how the gene pool manifests itself in looks and characteristics. I’ve been in the process of clearing our out family home of 56+ years and getting it ready for sale. As you can imagine, I’ve come across A LOT of family photos and other pieces of family history. I love discovering photos I’ve never seen. One of the recent finds was a photo of my great, great grandmother and grandfather. Amazing to see the faces and connections with other relatives that I know. It’s a beautiful thing.

Family resemblances are so amazing, and I find it interesting how they’re much more prominent in some families than others.

Sometimes though, I think it’s all perception. My husband and his sister were both adopted, with different biological parents, yet their sons look as if they could be blood relatives!

I know, it’s weird how that sometimes happens. I have a friend who looks just like her adoptive mother! Of course, some families feature more distinctive physical features than others. Fascinating.
