Organized for Life….and beyond?!

www.org4life.comEverything has a life cycle. People. Things. Businesses.

My business has been changing, and I’ve been updating my website accordingly. It’s a work in progress, as are we all, but I invite you to take a look and let me know what you think. Is it more clear what I have to offer these days and how it all fits together? Perhaps you’ve changed too, and my current offerings will appeal to you in a different way than they did before? Let me tell you more…

Everything has a life cycle. People. Things. Businesses. Are you Organized for Life...and beyond? Click To Tweet

Organize Your Life — Less clutter. More life.

The first decade of my business was all about helping people rise above their clutter and find the freedom of getting organized for life. You can read more in Org4life: The First 10 Years. Don’t worry, I still do that! But I’m taking less of a hands-on approach these days, and more of a virtual consulting approach. There are many advantages to a shorter, less expensive, virtual session, as described in Why Virtual Organizing?

My professional association, NAPO, has been by my side since Day 1. In return, I have been recognized for my service and dedication to NAPO with the 2017 NAPO President’s Award! (An experience which I describe in Networking for Introverts.)

Tell Your Story — Less clutter. Better story.

When I also joined APPO, a couple of years ago, and became a certified photo organizer, I noticed that one of their target markets is genealogists. This reignited a passion that had been on the back burner since being laid off from my corporate career, starting my business, and moving to Albuquerque (as told in Born to Organize). I have many years of both old-school and internet genealogy research experience, so I started doing research for others and found it to be very rewarding.

I help clients organize their family history files, photos, and memorabilia, and teach them how to get started if they want to do their own research. I started telling more of my own story (Hazel’s Stories), and those of my mother and father. How much memorabilia do you have? How many photos? Is it time to tell your story?

Create Your Legacy — Less clutter. More peace.

The older I get, the more I think about my own legacy. How will people remember me? Am I leaving behind a ton of stuff nobody will know what to do with? Is it all equally meaningful? (Hint: No, it is not.) And, who will check my email when I die? (Talking about death won’t kill you, LOL!) I have been writing about such things for a few years now and have incorporated them more prominently in my service offerings. I enjoy helping my clients create peace of mind for themselves, and their loved ones, by making decisions now so their families don’t have to later.

This new category also lends a new meaning to the egret-taking-flight logo, which represents freedom from clutter, but is often mistaken for a stork. You’ll understand the new meaning when you listen to this old gospel song, I’ll Fly Away (Alison Krauss version).

Website Refresh

If you look at my new website home page you will see my Services, Products, and Resources divided into the same categories as this blog post: Organize Your Life, Tell Your Story, and Create Your Legacy. Make sense? As I mentioned, it’s a work in progress, and I don’t always announce when I make changes. One of my new service offerings is a Go with the Flow! package that combines my Clutter Flow Chart e-workbook with a number of virtual coaching sessions.

Go ahead, take a look. And check back often!

Let me what you think, by leaving a comment below, and don’t hesitate to call 505-242-6762 for a free 20-minute call about anything! This offer is good for potential clients, existing clients, family, friends, colleagues, business associates, etc. Or, if you’re an introvert like me and hate making phone calls, click here to send me an email.

More wonderful changes for Organized for Life. A fan from the start, I continue to be inspired by watching the development of your personal skills, strengths and abilities in ways that enrich the lives of those you serve. Well done.

Oh, Sonja! You comment means more to me than I can say. Thank you.

Hi Hazel! I echo Sonja’s comments. You always figure a way to get/be MORE organized. Very helpful. Congrats on your award, and happy birthday!

I replied in the wrong spot. But I was happy to hear from you.

Hazel, I am so excited to see the progression of your business and I absolutely love the way you’ve presented your services and how everything flows together. Congratulations!

Thank you! It took me long enough to figure out how to incorporate genealogy and, um, death, into organizing (other than in my own head), lol!

Okay, I absolutely love the quote “talking about death won’t kill you.” That is so true! I actually had a chat with my mother over the weekend (since I was visiting) and she was showing me where things were and giving me a few details. I found it helpful. I will need to know this at some point. We didn’t get emotional, just went through it all, and then walked out of the room. I think avoiding the conversation is sort of like the “temporal discounting” that Ari Tuckman talks about. Better to do this now, when the person is alive, than try and figure it all out once they are gone! (LOVE the new site!!)

    • Hazel Thornton on June 9, 2017 at 9:16 pm

Yeah….it’s hard for us to imagine how hard it will be to make decisions later, so we don’t press for details, and they don’t realize how much harder it will be on us once they are gone and can no longer help make the decisions. I’m glad you got to do that with your mother!

You’re too funny — love that last comment about giving the option for introverts to email you! Always showing your thoughtful side. The new site looks great! I particularly like the About page and all those great photos of you! And I guess I didn’t realize you had that many products when I perused that page. I do love me a good chart! 😉

Thanks for stopping by my website and for your comments, Sarah!

I love the website redo, it looks great. It tells visitors exactly what it is you can offer them in the three distinct options.

    • Hazel Thornton on June 9, 2017 at 9:16 pm

      Thanks, Jill!

I love the new look! Things are always changing and evolving and we can embrace those changes or fight them. Congratulations on the new website and I hope it brings you even greater success 🙂

    • Hazel Thornton on June 9, 2017 at 9:16 pm

      Thank you, Liana!

I like the new layout, Hazel. Good luck with the new service. Everyone needs a sounding board to help them get organized and virtual consultations are a great way to get the feedback with little time involved for them.

After an injury years ago, I found that I couldn’t handle a lot of hands on organizing any longer so I changed my services to assist small business owners and it worked. I am able to assist owners to get organized and stay productive.

    • Hazel Thornton on June 9, 2017 at 9:05 pm

Thanks, Sabrina. I think as we age, and things happen, we all look for ways to continue to help people get organized!

Your website redo looks wonderful! But it’s also great to hear about your business evolution and how you’ve expanded your services and offerings. One of the things I love about this industry is the vast array of skills and background that organizers bring to the table. No two are alike. And it’s these differences that make the industry rich with change and growth. I love the phrase you choose…”Less clutter. More peace.” I’m always in that mode with clients, but am finding that personally I’m also in that mode – wanting to own less, have less, be responsible for less.

    • Hazel Thornton on June 9, 2017 at 9:09 pm

Thank you, Linda! I’ve always had “Less clutter. More life.” as my tagline. (Well, since 2007, when I also created my logo.) It was fun coming up with two more that suited the other two categories. I, too, am fascinated by the variety of backgrounds we all have.

Woo hoo! Well, you know I am particularly a fan of this website refresh. It is such a fabulous way for you to catch up to your current offerings and brand. The trifecta of service areas that you now offer makes so much sense for clients who need help with different stages of their life… and beyond! Way to go.

    • Hazel Thornton on July 6, 2017 at 10:07 am

Thanks, Lisa! Your insight, help, and approval mean a lot to me! I like that — my “trifecta of service areas”.
